George Miller: Stonemason Sculptor

THE SUTER TE ARATOI O WHAKATŪ THEATRE, 208 Bridge Street, Nelson
$7. Tickets from www.thesuter.org.nz/ or call 03 548 4699

Art historian Jane Vial reveals the story behind local stonemason and sculptor George Miller’s impact on Nelson’s heritage. From a family of builders, Miller (1872-1949) designed monuments and carved marble and wooden frontages, including the NMIT wooden eagles in Hardy Street and moulded small sculptures of Māori. Jane’s illustrated talk will show the significance of architectural ornament glimpsed in Nelson city.
